W.of E.THEATRE ORGAN SOCIETY
THE WEST OF ENGLAND THEATRE ORGAN SOCIETY.

The Organ Society maintains and supports the Compton 3c/6 Theatre Pipe Organ at the Odeon cinema, Weston-Super-Mare and runs public concerts.

See "NEXT CONCERT" & "DIARY DATES" pages for details of next con
Installed in 1935 - The Only One Left.
The Odeon cinema at Weston-Super-Mare houses the only Compton theatre pipe organ in an Odeon cinema outside London and is one of only two working theatre organs left in the country still performing in their original location in commercially operating cinemas.

This Compton organ was installed in 1935 and is the only one left in the West Country, the next nearest being the Odeon, Leicester Square, London. All other models having been either restored and moved elsewhere, or destroyed.

The Organ here is a Compton 3c/6 three manual (keyboards) six rank instrument. The six ranks of pipes are as follows:-

Tuba. Tibia Clausa, Vox Humana, Oboe, Flute and Cello.

Although the organ has three manuals, the top manual is only a coupler manual, so called because it does not have stops of it's own, but borrows sounds from the other two.

Many Compton cinema organs had Melotones, but this one does not. However, it does have a rare Solo Cello stop which involves a mechanical bow and pitching fingers which is operated from the organ console.
